Chelsea told not to renew this English midfielder contract
Former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor has sent a message to Chelsea in regards to midfielder Mason Mount’s future at the club as he advised them against renewing his contract.
According to Agbonlahor, Mount is not outstanding and has not done enough to warrant a new contract for him to remain at Chelsea.
This comes as Mount has been in the news on a report bothering on his future at the West London club being a subject of discussion.
He has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge, with Liverpool reportedly planning to make a move for him this summer.
Mount’s contract at Chelsea will expire in 2024 and so far contract talks with the club has fallen through as he wants an increase from his £80,000 per week contract to around £200,000 per week.
“He has scored 27 goals in 129 appearances. He’s not fantastic, is he? He’s not. The stats show that he is not. He’s an okay player, but he is not outstanding,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
“Look at Arsenal. [Martin] Odegaard has got 14 goals this season. Mason Mount has scored 27 in 129 games. He’s not adding enough to the team to warrant a £200,000-a-week new contract. He’s not doing enough to warrant a new contract.”
