Chelsea suffer transfer blow in race for Tel
Chelsea may have suffered a transfer blow this January transfer window amid reports linking them with moves to sign Mathys Tel.
This comes as Bayern Munich director Christopher Freund in a recent statement suggested that the club would prefer to keep Tel.
Recall that on Monday, reports surfaced that the Blues could explore their long-standing interest in Tel in the coming weeks.
The report surfaced after Bayern were linked with moves for Christopher Nkunku, who is said to be their priority target this January transfer window.
Should the transfer happen, there are speculations that it would theoretically negatively impact Tel.
While the 19-year-old is reported to have expressed his willingness to remain at the Allianz Arena, he has made only two starts and nine substitute outings this season.
With Harry Kane retaining the first choice in Vincent Kompany’s attack, it is yet to be seen how Tel would get regular football going forward especially if Nkunku moves to Germany.
Amid reports linking Tel to Chelsea, Freund in a statement quoted by The Standard said the youngster remains an important player in Bayern squad.
“We are in very good contact because he’s a great talent and should play an important role for us. We have had many discussions,” he said.
Freund added that Bayern’s goal is for Tel to make his breakthrough in Germany.
