Chelsea ready to let 22-year-old move out on loan

Chelsea are ready to let their 21-year-old versatile defender Ethan Ampadu leave the club on loan this summer.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who said Chelsea and Serie A side Spezia have reached an agreement over a loan deal for the versatile defender.

Despite his several appearances for the Blues during the pre-season games as a centre-back, Ampadu is yet to make an appearance in a competitive game under Thomas Tuchel so far this season.

It had appeared Tuchel was pleased with Ampadu’s performances during the team’s tour in the United States, but that was not enough to convince the manager.

Chelsea have since signed Kalidou Koulibaly and have been linked with moves for Leicester City star Wesley Fofana.

While Chelsea have decided to keep Trevoh Chalobah at the club this summer, Ampadu is on the verge of leaving, according to Romano.

“Spezia are set to sign Ampadu from Chelsea,” the Italian transfer expert wrote on Twitter.

“[I’ve] been told the deal is now progressing to the signing stage.

“Ampadu has agreed on personal terms and [there is a] full agreement between the clubs in place.”

Romano hinted that Ampadu is expected to join Spezia on loan with an option to buy at around €15million (£12.7m).
