Liverpool Line Up £70m Winger Alternative as Arsenal Lead Race for PSG Star
Liverpool are continuing their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, but reports suggest the Reds are also exploring alternative attacking options as uncertainty surrounds the France international’s future.
Barcola has enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign with France, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards. However, despite Liverpool’s long-standing interest, Arsenal are now believed to be leading the race for his signature.
The Gunners have emerged as strong contenders after stepping up plans to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s attacking options this summer. Barcola is understood to be open to a new challenge following concerns over limited playing time at Paris Saint-Germain, where competition for places has intensified under Luis Enrique.
PSG are also expected to strengthen their attack with the arrivals of highly rated talents Yan Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche. Those potential additions could further reduce Barcola’s role, increasing the likelihood of a summer departure.
With Arsenal reportedly in pole position, Liverpool are preparing contingency plans should they fail to secure the French winger. Sporting director Richard Hughes is said to be monitoring another wide attacker valued at around £70 million, described in reports as an “extremely dangerous” option capable of providing pace, creativity and goals.
Liverpool remain determined to strengthen their forward line ahead of the new season, but Arsenal’s growing advantage in the race for Barcola means the Merseyside club may soon be forced to focus their attention elsewhere.
The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as both Premier League rivals continue searching for marquee attacking additions before the transfer window closes.
