Chelsea Set Friday Deadline for Enzo Fernandez Transfer as Man City Wait in Wings

Chelsea have reportedly drawn a line under the uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez’s future by setting a Friday 5pm deadline for any potential deal involving the Argentina international.

The Blues have informed Fernandez, Manchester City and other interested parties that they have until the deadline to find an agreement. If no suitable offer is completed by then, Fernandez is expected to remain at Stamford Bridge for the new Premier League season.

Chelsea are believed to be determined to have their squad largely settled before the campaign begins, prompting the club to impose a firm deadline on negotiations.

Fernandez’s future has been uncertain for several months following tensions between the midfielder and Chelsea earlier this year. The 25-year-old reportedly indicated that he could consider a move to Real Madrid, while contract discussions were subsequently put on hold.

Manchester City have been linked with a potential move and could now face a race against time if they want to secure the midfielder. Chelsea are prepared to consider offers but have consistently maintained that they want around £120 million before sanctioning his departure.

The club’s latest decision places significant pressure on all parties to reach an agreement quickly. Fernandez’s representatives and any interested clubs now have only a limited window to negotiate a deal that satisfies Chelsea’s valuation.

If Friday’s deadline passes without an agreement, the midfielder is expected to remain part of Xabi Alonso’s squad, giving the new Chelsea head coach clarity over his midfield options heading into the 2026/27 campaign.

The coming days could therefore prove decisive in determining whether Fernandez begins the season at Stamford Bridge or completes a dramatic late transfer.
