Chelsea proposes bid for Benfica midfielder
The latest report has revealed that Chelsea are determined to sign Benfica midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, and are proposing a bid for him ahead of Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United.
Fernandez became one of the most sought-after young midfielders after his impressive role in the Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup win in Qatar.
According to the report, Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the race to sign the 21-year-old, having held talks with Benfica over a possible move in January.
Fernandez is said to have a release clause worth €120million in his deal with Benfica and reports in Portugal claimed last week that the club have already turned down a €100million offer, as they wouldn’t let him leave except if his full release clause is met.
A recent report via the Daily Record revealed that Chelsea are ready to enter the fray with a huge offer for Fernandez as they challenge Liverpool and Man United for the player’s signature.
The report added that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has proposed a deal that would see them pay more than the €127million Atletico Madrid paid Benfica for Joao Felix back in 2019, which is the club’s current record sale.
Chelsea believe Fernandez will consider a move from Benfica in January even though the club want to hold him down until the end of the season.
