Ross Barkley might be surplus to requirement at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea are not ready to let him leave the club on a small fee.

The England international was loaned out to Aston Villa during the start of the season and has been playing to his full potential at the club.

Ross Barkley has played a starring role for Dean Smith’s European-chasing side since arriving on loan, contributing three goals and one assist in the Premier League.

His good form has given Aston Villa a shot at European football and they are understood to be keen to strike a permanent move for Barkley.

However, Chelsea are not willing to let their fringe player leave on the cheap as they hope his sale can bring some profit to the club.

According to a new report from 90Min, Chelsea will be releasing Barkley to Aston Villa if they can only fork out £40m.

With Barkley currently one of Aston Villa’s most important player, Chelsea are trying to persuade Dean Smith and the board to smash their transfer record.

Aston Villa’s current transfer record is the £28m for they paid for Watkins.

Chelsea are yet to know of Ross Barkley will fit into Thomas Tuchel’s plan and so are waiting for the German tactician to share his thoughts before making a move with other clubs.
