Chelsea appoint new Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent

Chelsea seems to be making some new changes at the club as hours after the club confirmed the appointment of Laurence Stewart as technical director on Wednesday, they have also confirmed the appointment of Joe Shields as Co-Director of Recruitment and Talent.

Shields, who be a part of the Blues’ technical setup, is tasked with recruiting and developing world-class footballing talent.

According to the record, Shields has vast experience when it comes to recruiting younger players and was a member of the scouting departments at Crystal Palace and Fulham before spending nine years at Manchester City, where he became Head of Academy Recruitment and Talent Management.

He will move to Stamford Bridge once he fulfils his deal with Southampton ends.

Reacting to Shields’ appointment, Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said

“Joe is another great addition to Chelsea, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. We have a clear plan and will adopt a modern and data-driven philosophy, focused on elite emerging talent.
