Barcelona target Arsenal and Chelsea defenders
La Liga giant could raid Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea in the January transfer window set to commence in less than 30 days from now.
A report has disclosed that Barcelona are considering Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi and Chelsea’s defender Antonio Rudiger as centre-back options.
Since top defenders Gerard Pique suffered a knee injury, the Catalans have been planning to sign a new defender to serve as back up.
Mundo Deportivo, as cited by caughtoffside, claims that while Manchester City’s Eric Garcia remains an option, Mustafi and Rudiger are also now targeting.
Even though Mustafi is struggling for chances at Arsenal, Barcelona are said to be considering him because of his experience of playing in Spain with Valencia.
Rudiger on the other hand like a few senior players at Chelsea is not getting enough playing chances under Frank Lampard although he recently got a rare start at Newcastle.
While some football experts claim Rudiger is a better partner to play alongside Thiago Silva at the back, Lampard, however prefers to use Kurt Zouma instead.
A report disclosed that Ronald Koeman has been handed funds to bolster Barcelona’s defence when the transfer market commences.
The report further revealed that Garcia remains Barcelona’s top target, with the City youngster down the pecking order at The Etihad.
However, if the La Liga side are priced out of a move for the 19-year-old, then they will consider going for one of Mustafi or Rudiger.
