Chelsea are set to see another of their key defenders in the person of Marcos Alonso leave the club this summer.

The Blues manager Thomas Tuchel in a statement said Alonso, who has been linked with moves to Barcelona has been allowed to leave.

Tuchel revealed this while speaking to reporters after their 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

“Yes, Marcos asked to leave and we agreed to this.

“It would make no sense to put him on the pitch today,” the Blues boss said.

Alonso’s transfer to Camp Nou will make him the second Chelsea player to move to Barcelona this summer.

The Catalans had signed Andreas Christensen on a free transfer earlier on in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish fullback will move for less than 10m euros and become the Catalans’ fifth summer signing.

Chelsea will be looking to count on Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella on the left side of his defence this season.

In other news, Cesar Azpilicueta, who was also linked with moves to Camp Nou from Chelsea this summer has extended his contract with the Blues.
