Arsenal’s forgotten midfielder set to stay put and fight for a place in Spain capital
The future of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira looks sorted as he tends to stay with Atletico Madrid and fight for a place in Diego Simeone’s team
Lucas Torreira has been a subject of speculations ever since the transfer window started some weeks ago as Arsenal are reportedly ready to call him back from his loan move at Atletico Madrid.
The Uruguayan moved to the Spanish capital on a season-long loan but has not been able to replicate the form that saw Arsenal beat off competition from some teams in Europe to move to England.
Torreira stats at Atletico Madrid have seen him appear on just 16 occasions as only three of those appearance are in the La Liga.
Though there have been reports that Arsenal are willing to bring him back to England so as to find another club for him, new reports have emerged that Atletico Madrid are willing to keep him till the end of his deal.
According to La Nazione, Los Rojiblancos are not willing to lose him during this window as they see him as a suitable replacement in midfield if some unforeseen circumstance happen.
With Atletico Madrid currently on top in La Liga and set to face Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League, the report added that Simeone wants to make sure he has enough cover in midfield and Torreira’s departure will leave a void in the team.
Though Arsenal has the right to recall the player, Torreira’s decision however also matters and it does not look like the Uruguayan international is ready to move away from Atletico Madrid.
