With less than four days to the end of the January transfer window, Arsenal been advised against signing Jack Wilshere.

This is according to Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn, who warned manager Mikel Arteta against any move that would see the Gunners bring back the 30-year-old former England, West Ham and Bournemouth midfielder.

The reports have linked Wilshere with a return to the Emirate stadium as the player desperately looks for a new club as he is now a free agent.

Winterburn told Metro that “If I’m honest, I don’t see it as an option.

“I’ve seen Jack’s interviews and I know Jack is fit enough to play, but he hasn’t been in the Premier League for a while.

“I’ve always stood up for him because, although I wasn’t injured a lot, I’ve seen others go through it.

“Mentally, it’s difficult to get yourself back into training and then back into action with the first team, match by match.

“I just feel with all the injuries he’s had and the time that’s gone by, I don’t personally see it being an option for Mikel Arteta. I think if it was then it would have already happened.”
