Spain head coach rules out moves to Man Utd before world cup

Spain coach Luis Enrique is one of those that have been tipped to emerge as manager at Old Trafford next summer.

However, in a recent update, Enrique has ruled himself out of taking the Manchester United job before the 2022 World Cup.

Enrique is believed to be one of a number of potential candidates to replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick in the summer, along with Ajax’s Erik ten Haag and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino.

Enrique is allegedly admired by many among United’s hierarchy, and the Daily Mirror reports that the Red Devils intend to hold talks with the Spaniard over the vacancy at Old Trafford.

However, the former Barcelona manager revealed in a recent statement that he remains committed to leading the Spanish national team in Qatar later this year.

This means any plan of him managing any club will have to wait until after the tournament.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Spain’s friendly fixture with Iceland, Enrique said: “I will be in Qatar with Spain because I have given my word, and there is nothing that makes me more excited than representing my country in the World Cup; later, we’ll see.”

Enrique, during his time at Barcelona, won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and the Champions League before leading Spain to the final of the 2020-21 Nations League and the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
