Manchester United Transfer News: Red Devils Set to Make Second Bid for Jarrad Branthwaite
Manchester United are reportedly preparing to submit a renewed offer for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite after their initial bid was rejected.
The 21-year-old, who surprisingly missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, has emerged as Man United’s top centre-back target this summer.
The Red Devils’ first bid, reportedly between £35m and £45m including add-ons, was swiftly rejected by Everton. However, the Toffees are bracing for a follow-up offer from the 20-time English champions.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United are readying a second bid for Branthwaite, although it is expected to be below Everton’s asking price of £80m.
Everton are determined to keep the defender, but offers around £70m could be considered due to their financial situation.
Man United previously spent £80m to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in 2019, and Everton believe Branthwaite should be valued similarly based on his recent form.
The Red Devils are said to have agreed on personal terms with Branthwaite, who is eager to move to Old Trafford.
However, signing him will be challenging unless Everton lowers their demands, especially with Man United’s minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe not willing to overpay.
Branthwaite enjoyed a successful loan spell at PSV Eindhoven during the 2022-23 season and made 41 appearances for Sean Dyche’s side last season.
