Manchester United gives senior player condition he must pass inorder to be awarded a new contract
Manchester United defender Eric Bailly will not be given a new contract by the club unless he prove his fitness level to be better than the past few seasons, according to reports.
Eric Baily has been one of United most trusted centre-back ever since he joined the club but injuries have stopped him from showing his full potentials.
The Ivory Coast international has struggled for fitness in the past few seasons and this has continued with Baily appearing on just 14 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2020-21 campaign.
Though he returned to the pitch against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night where he played the full 90 min that was his eight appearances in the Premier League this term, a move that showed how he has been struggling with injuries.
Despite this, a recent report claimed that Manchester United are willing to offer him a new contract.
However, according to ESPN, Baily will have to work hard before getting the new contract as the 20-time English champions want him to prove that his injury problems are behind him before handing him a fresh deal.
Manchester United have identified some defenders that might come in and replace Baily but the club are looking at the financial side of it as they’ve also set their eyes on some attacking players.
Bailly’s injury problems have seen him appear on 99 occasions for Man United since arriving in Villarreal in July 2016.
