Manchester United are in the race to make adjustments in their squad this summer as they hope to witness a turnaround next season.

The Red Devils have been linked with a new defender this summer and are said to be competing with Spanish giants Real Madrid for his signature.

However, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the Premier League club will beat Real Madrid to sign the target defender Leny Yoro.

The reports revealed that the Red Devils and the UEFA champions have both been linked with the Lille defender.

Yoro, who will turn 18 in November is already valued at around £50 million after enjoying a breakout season for the French side.

He made 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season and secured the fourth spot for Bruno Genesio’s side, making them a Champions League qualifiers.

Speaking via his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said the Red Devils have to get a fit Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez back and playing more regularly next season.

He, however, stressed that the would still need to buy another centre-back and believes Yoro has huge potential and could be anything at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand added that he doesn’t see Real Madrid signing a centre-back which means Man Utd stand a good chance of getting him to move to England.

“You would get a good five or ten years out of him,” he said.
