Former Man Utd striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the many names that have been linked to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

However, a recent update revealed Van Nistelrooy is worried about being seen as the man who betrayed the Dutchman.

There are speculations that the former Man United striker could be offered the job on an interim basis if Ten Hag is sacked as they head into the international break.

However, the former striker doesn’t want to be portrayed as an opportunist who took up a role on Ten Hag’s backroom staff in the summer to give the club a temporary solution should he fail to improve his team’s woeful form.

Van Nistelrooy has been in a shoe close to Ten Hag’s current situation as his only managerial experience ended in bitter acrimony after a season in charge at PSV Eindhoven.

The former striker had accused assistant Fred Rutten and several senior players of conspiring with the club’s directors behind his back in the spring of 2023.

He is wary of the same scenario unfolding at Man Utd, despite turning down the chance to manage Burnley in the summer to return to Manchester.
