There reason referee Robert Jones refused to listen to Chelsea’s call for a penalty during their Premier League clash against West Ham clash on Saturday has been revealed.

The game saw Conor Gallagher’s effort from just outside the box blocked by Tomas Soucek, who dived like a goalkeeper as he tried to block the ball.

The aftermath saw Chelsea players gather around the referee as they pleaded for a spot-kick.

Video assistant referee team led by David Coote and Nick Smith we’re consulted but no penalty was given to the Blues

Speaking to BT Sport, ‘referee expert’ Peter Walton said: “Well when Soucek goes down there, you can clearly see his arm go down.

“Is his arm down there to prevent him from hitting the ground or is his arm there to block the ball? My opinion is if it hasn’t been given he’s got away with it, I think that’s a penalty kick.”
