Why Man Utd could be banned from Europe next season

There are new reports that Manchester United could be banned from playing in European tournaments next season.

This is as a result of Sir Jim Ratcliffe buying a minority stake in the Premier League club.

Aside from Man Utd, Ratcliffe also owns OGC Nice, who currently sit fifth in the French Ligue 1.

However, UEFA’s rules on multi-club ownership imply that both clubs would not be allowed to play in the same competition.

UEFA tweaked their rules slightly, allowing clubs under common ownership to compete in different European competitions as of next season

However, the ban on those teams participating in the same tournament remains.

“It is correct that Manchester United and Nice cannot play in the same competition.

“They could play in different competitions, as there is no ‘feeding’ between competitions any more,” a UEFA insider is quoted as telling the Sun.
