Why Chelsea may have signed this Arsenal target in January

Former Arsenal star, Alan Smith has knocked Chelsea over their approach in the football transfer market, as he claimed they only made a move for Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk in the January window to spite Arsenal.

Recall that Arsenal were the favourite to sign Mudryk in the January transfer window before Chelsea hijacked him and signed from Shakhtar Donetsk instead.

However, Mudryk has not been impressive for them as he failed to score a goal in his first six-month at Stamford Bridge.

Smith also believes it would be tough for manager Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

“It’s been such a haphazard approach to signing players, it has been really scattergun,” Smith told Gambling Zone.

“I don’t think there was any method to their [Chelsea] business last season. The signing of [Mykhailo] Mudryk is a great example of that. Arsenal were interested, and they thought they’d pinch him off their London rivals.

“Chelsea have collected all these players. With so much movement in and out of the team, I think it is going to be hard for [Mauricio] Pochettino.”
