Why Chelsea fans should not get carried away with their performance under Potter just yet

Former Arsenal football star Paul Merson has issued a piece of advice to Chelsea fans against getting ‘carried away’ with their manager, Graham Potter’s form at Stamford Bridge.

Recall that after Tuchel was sacked some weeks back, the club’s owner quickly replaced the German with former Brighton boss Potter.

So far Potter has overseen just three matches, winning two and drawing one in the Champions League against RB Salzburg.

Merson stressed that the Blues supporters ‘should not get carried away’ as Potter’s side are yet to play ‘anyone of real note’.

However, Merson said Potter’s side would do better next season, as much should not be expected from them this season.

Chelsea welcome Wolves to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Merson told Daily Star: “I watched Chelsea at Crystal Palace last weekend and I thought the Blues got away with one.

“AC Milan was a good result but they were fortunate to put a team out, so we shouldn’t get carried away just yet with Graham Potter.

“If Chelsea get in the top four this season, I think they’ve had the biggest result ever. I don’t mean that disrespectfully but it’s going to take time to implement his ideas from Brighton.

“Next season, I think we will see a completely different Chelsea. They will be a massive threat.”
