Why AS Roma may not sign Lukaku permanently
Italian club AS Roma may not be able to sign Belgian international Romelu Lukaku permanently from Chelsea.
A report by Fichajes revealed AS Roma could drop the idea of signing Romelu Lukaku permanently despite his impressive form at the club.
Recall that the 30-year-old joined Roma on loan in the summer and has had a great start under Jose Mourinho.
Before his move to Roma, Lukaku was linked with moves to Inter Milan and Juventus but both deals fell through.
While Roma would like to make Lukaku’s deal permanent, it, however, be impossible if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
They would have to let him go and look for options elsewhere as the Blues want €40m for Lukaku, which Roma may find hard to meet.
There was interest in Lukaku’s services from Saudi Arabia and he could consider that option because of the huge wages they are ready to pay and the booming league.
