UEFA unveils nominees for Player of the Year award

Football body, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) during an announcement on Thursday, unveiled the names of the three final nominees shortlisted for the 2022–23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Awards.

This was made public via UEFA’s official website and the three nominees are Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi and Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne.

The award winner will be announced at the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, August 31, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Recall that Messi, Haaland, and De Bruyne were impressive during the 2022–23 season.

Messi was nominated for his performance at French side Paris Saint-Germain PSG before he moved to Inter Miami this summer.

Meanwhile, football coaches and journalists were asked to pick their top three players from the shortlist by allocating them five points, three points, and one point, respectively.
