Former England captain Alan Shearer has revealed the only player that can help Timo Werner get back to his good form as the Germany international continue to struggle in from of goal.

Timo Werner, a summer signing from RB Leipzig has failed to live up to the hype that saw him make the move to Stamford Bridge as he has failed to score in his last 11 outings for the Blues in all competition.

His form has raised eyebrows from pundits and club fans, with Frank Lampard asked to bench the star forward for the likes of Tammy Abraham and Oliver Giroud who are scoring goals.

With Chelsea set to play Manchester City in their first match in 2021, Alan Shearer noted that in order for Werner to get back on the scoring sheet, Jorginho should be relieved of his penalty duty.

Jorginho was guilty of missing a penalty against Arsenal on Boxing Day, as the Blues were beaten 3-1 and Shearer believes Werner would have seized such moment to gain his confidence.

Shearer, while sharing his opinion on his column for The Athletic, noted that Werner can’t knock on the manager’s door and say he should be starting matches, because he shouldn’t miss the chances he’s missing.

As all the options available for Frank Lampard on the bench ensure that starting Werner is not going to last both for his sake and the manager’s sake.
