Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has sent a message to some of the club’s new players signing long-term deals as he said it doesn’t guarantee they would get game time.

Following their 1-1 draw with Liverpool in their opening Premier League game, the Blues have signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The Blues signed Caicedo for a British record £115m fee from Brighton, while they agreed to a £53m plus £5m deal with Southampton for Lavia.

“It’s not that (if) we sign a player and we spend big money, that they are sure to play. I don’t tell Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia ‘you are going to play, (whether) you are good or bad’. It’s not like this, football.

“Talented players, players that the club spends money on, they need to show every day that they desertve to play.

“My job is to be fair with everyone in the squad. You sign a player on an eight-year contract and after (that) he doesn’t run, is not involved, no commitment – is he going to play? That is our job. It’s our judgement,” he told reporters.
