Morata reveals he almost suffered depression at Stamford Bridge
One of the players Chelsea fans wouldn’t forget in a hurry is Alvaro Morata, not because he performed exceptionally but because he didn’t meet up with fans and even the club expectations.
Morata who joined Chelsea from Real Madrid back in 2017 in a deal worth more than £50 million was unable to deliver at the Premier League club and he was part of the reason Chelsea went on to sign world cup winner, Olivier Giroud from rivals, Arsenal when the former failed to perform as a striker.
He struggled as a lone striker at Stamford Bridge, despite scoring 24 goals in 72 games.
He went to join Spanish side Atletico Madrid in January 2019, before later joining the former club, Juventus before the current campaign.
In a recent statement, Morata disclosed that he almost suffered depression at Stamford abridge.
“I’ve never had depression and I hope I never do, but I came close,” Morata said in an interview with El Mundo.
“When your head doesn’t work well, you are your worst enemy,” he added.
Morata revealed that during those times at Chelsea it doesn’t matter what you do, you are always fighting against yourself.
”Depression is an illness just like breaking your ankle,” he added.
