Michael Olise Signs, Julian Alvarez Saga – Chelsea’s Next Moves After Securing Tosin Adarabioyo
Chelsea has officially confirmed the signing of Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, marking the first acquisition under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
Adarabioyo, who grew up just three miles from Stamford Bridge, has signed a four-year contract with Chelsea. He will officially join the Blues on July 1 after his contract with Fulham expires at the end of the month. This strategic move adds an experienced player to a crucial position without incurring a transfer fee, making it a shrewd piece of business for the club.
However, this signing is just the beginning of what promises to be a busy transfer window for Chelsea. Here, the football.london panel discusses the next areas the club should focus on.
Bobby Vincent
Noni Madueke shows great potential but may not yet be at the level Chelsea needs for next season. Therefore, Chelsea should prioritize signing a right winger, and Michael Olise from Crystal Palace stands out as the perfect option despite his injury history. Olise’s talent could elevate Chelsea under Maresca, though competition from Manchester United could make this a challenging acquisition.
Joe Doyle
Chelsea’s recent influx of players makes it difficult to pinpoint specific areas needing reinforcement. Depth at centre-forward is crucial, especially with Christopher Nkunku returning from injury to support Nicolas Jackson. However, sorting out Conor Gallagher’s situation is imperative. Deciding whether to keep Gallagher or sell him for a good fee will shape Chelsea’s subsequent market activities. If Gallagher leaves, finding a suitable replacement will be necessary.

Adarabioyo’s arrival is a promising start, particularly given the club’s financial constraints under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. Following this strategy, signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney next would be wise. With his contract expiring in just over a year, Toney could be a cost-effective option compared to high-profile targets like Victor Osimhen. Proven Premier League quality at a reasonable price makes Toney an attractive choice.
Tom Coley
The free transfer of Adarabioyo is an astute move. Chelsea should continue with such smart, unflashy business throughout the summer. Key internal decisions, like securing a new deal for Gallagher or retaining Trevoh Chalobah, could be just as impactful as new signings. While a new goalkeeper might be pressing, finding a quality striker to support Jackson is also essential. Benjamin Sesko and Julian Alvarez are intriguing prospects, though the latter might involve a dramatic transfer saga.
Ultimately, Chelsea should aim to complete their transfers early and avoid unnecessary hype. However, significant bids for Olise and potential developments with Alvarez suggest an eventful summer ahead.
