Manchester United and Chelsea Lead Race for Borussia Dortmund Midfielder

Manchester United and Chelsea have emerged as the leading Premier League clubs interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha after Newcastle United withdrew from the race.
The 25-year-old Germany international has enhanced his reputation with a string of impressive performances at the FIFA Club World Cup, attracting renewed interest from several top English clubs. His displays have convinced a number of Premier League sides that he could strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new season.
As previously reported, intermediaries have been in contact with multiple clubs in recent weeks to gauge interest in Nmecha should Borussia Dortmund decide to sanction a transfer this summer.
Newcastle were among the clubs to explore a potential deal, with manager Eddie Howe keen to reinforce his midfield. However, the Magpies have now stepped away from negotiations after deciding the financial demands involved were too high. Dortmund’s reported €100 million valuation proved to be a major obstacle, with Newcastle unwilling to meet the Bundesliga club’s asking price.
Sources also suggest that the player’s own reservations contributed to Newcastle’s withdrawal. Nmecha is understood to have been unconvinced that a move to St James’ Park represented the ideal next step in his career, despite the club’s recent progress under Howe.
With Newcastle no longer in contention, Manchester United and Chelsea are now regarded as the strongest Premier League suitors. Both clubs are expected to continue monitoring the midfielder’s situation closely as they evaluate potential summer signings.
Borussia Dortmund are yet to make a final decision on Nmecha’s future, but interest in the German international is expected to intensify as the transfer window progresses.
