Ahead of the Red Devils clash with Liverpool in the Premier Leagues this weekend, Norway international and coach Ole Gunner Solskjaer has been advised to be ruthless.

This is according to former Chelsea defender, Glen Johnson who urged Solskjaer to be more ruthless and begin by dropping some of the big names at the club to get a better working squad at Old Trafford.

Johnson advised the Norwegian to emulate former Man United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, the current coach of Italian club AS Roma.

When the former Chelsea star was asked whether Solskjaer had to be more ruthless and start dropping some of his big-name players, Johnson told the PA news agency: “Absolutely, I think you have to.

He stressed that Mourinho had it when he was at Chelsea as the team the Portuguese would leave out on a Saturday was pretty much good enough to finish in the top six.

Johnson added that ”If you want to be the manager of a top club, you have to be able to make ruthless decisions. He has to make some big decisions, and he has to leave some big names out. Mourinho literally couldn’t care less.”

“He knew he had a job, and he protected his own job by picking a team to win a certain football match. If you want to work in big clubs that is what you have to do, you have to have that zero-tolerance attitude really.”
