Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has queried why Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag would leave Alejandro Garnacho on the bench and start Antony.

Merson revealed it was shocking that Antony is still getting game time ahead of Garnacho in the Red Devils lineup.

Recall that the Red Devils suffered a defeat to Arsenal who scored two late goals thanks to to Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus to win three points at the Emirates on Sunday.

Man Utd would have emerged winner in the 89th minute when Garnacho, who came in the second half, confidently struck the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

However, the VAR cancelled the goal as offside.

In a post-match statement, Wright said Garnacho looked like a real livewire for the Red Devils and a better fit for their counter-attacking setup ahead of Antony.

He told Premier League Productions, “I think Garnacho is a positive [from the defeat].

“I cannot believe [Garnacho]does not start in front of someone like Antony.

“He’s surely going to be better than what Antony is giving you at this particularly moment.

“We saw it in that little cameo there what he did.”
