Man Utd confirm Amrabat’s shirt number

Manchester United have confirmed the shirt number for their summer Sofyan Amrabat after the completion of his loan move from Fiorentina.

Recall that the Morocco midfielder arrived at Old Trafford alongside Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans and Sergio Reguilon last Friday, ahead of the deadline.

With the formalities now finalised, Man Utd have announced that Amrabat will wear the no.4 shirt at Old Trafford.

The no.4 shirt was most recently worn by Phil Jones, who exited the club this summer after his contract expired.

Phil had worn the shirt for 12 years following his transfer from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011.

The number 4 shirt is associated with either centre-backs or midfielders.

According to the record, former Man Utd captain Steve Bruce was the first to wear the short no.4 at Old Trafford following the introduction of Premier League squad numbers in 1993/94.

Bruce was succeeded by David May, who switched from no.12 when Bruce left the club at the end of 1995/96.
