Liverpool, Chelsea to battle to sign Ajax midfielder

Liverpool and Chelsea are purportedly both keen on signing £30m-rated Ajax central midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

Georginio Wijnaldum is out of contract at Anfield in the summer and is yet to sign another contract with Liverpool, leaving Jurgen Klopp searching for a replacement.

The 18-year-old has helped Ajax to the highest point of the Eredivisie, 11 points clear of second-placed PSV Eindhoven with seven games to play.

Reports in The Express claim that Chelsea are also inspired by Gravenberch, with Thomas Tuchel possibly hoping to add youth to his midfield.

The Ajax midfielder is a regular starter for Erik ten Hag’s side, making 37 appearances this season, scoring four goals and registering six assists.

Ryan Gravenberch joined Ajax in 2019 with his present contract running until the summer of 2023.
