I hope to return in a new role: Chelsea defender announces exit

Chelsea veteran defender and Brazil star Thiago Silva has confirmed his exit from the club at the end of the season.

Silva, who joined the Blues on a free transfer in August 2020 with a one year deal went on to stay at Stamford Bridge for four years.

During his time the Blues, Silva who is Chelsea key player made 151 appearances and won the Champions League, Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with the club.

He is also one of the impressive players this season despite their woes under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Silva has picked up a groin injury during the Blues 2-2 goal against Aston Villa, which happens to have been in last match for Chelsea.

Owing to the groin injury, Silva may not play for the Chelsea for the remainder of the season.

The defender in a heartfelt and lengthy message appreciated Chelsea and fans for the support shown to his family.

He, however, hinted on the possibilities of return to Stamford Bridge in future in a different role.

Silva revealed it felt hard for him to say goodbye to the Blues.

Speaking on a possible return to Chelsea, Silva said: “I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here. But…it’s an indescribable love. I can only say thank you.”
