Despite Olivier Giroud’s performance in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday night against Sevilla, there are indications that the France international may not start tonight vs. Leeds United in the Premier League.

Giroud, who scored four goals for Chelsea during the week has not had a start in the Premier League this season as coach Frank Lampard prefers to start Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner ahead of him.

Why many may have believed Giroud’s performance against Sevilla will get him a start against Leeds United, it looks like nothing of such will happen.

Although his performance has given Lampard a selection problem, the manager has however stated that it is not an assurance that he would start in the EPL match vs. Leeds United.

“It’s not a case of giving players reassurances over game time, it’s difficult to do. You want players out of the team to train well and perform,” Lampard told reporters ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leeds United.

“It gives me nice problems. Oli has always done that, particularly after the restart (last season) when he was fundamental to us getting into the Champions League spots.

“From my point of view I have competition for places. Tammy has been scoring and making assists. I can’t give assurances but I never see anything negative from Oli. Playing like the other night, clearly he will get plenty of opportunities.”
