Frank Lampard shares concern over potential crowd ban for London clubs

Frank Lampard has said football should be exempt from government COVID-19 rules banning crowds and claims allowing fans in some stadiums has created an unfair advantage for certain Premier League teams.

Fans were welcomed back to some football grounds in the Premier League last week and London were placed in Tier 2 with Chelsea welcoming supporters back to Stamford Bridge.

The blues last two home games against Leeds United in the Premier League and their final Champions League Group E match against Krasnodar saw their fans back into the stadium after some months off.

However, with health secretary Matt Hancock expected to confirm that London will go into Tier 3, Lampard has voiced his concerns.

According to Lampard, this move is a step backwards in the progress football has made in responding to COVID-19.

“I think if it comes in it will be difficult [to adjust back to empty stadiums] and I’m slightly disappointed,” Lampard told a news conference.

Lampard is hoping the government will reconsider their stance.

However, in another report, the Blues will return to action in the Premier League when they come face to face with the Wolves.

Chelsea are currently seated at the 3rd spot on the EPL table and risk falling further if they lose to the Wolves tommorrow.
