France boss Didier Deschamps has given an update on Oliver Giroud’s chances of making the 23 man list that will represent the country at the next European Championship.

Giroud has been able to cement a place in Didier Deschamps’ team but his lack of playing time at Chelsea have cast a doubt on his participation at Euro 2021.

However, Didier Deschamps has insisted that the star striker will be considered but he needs to keep playing for Chelsea in order to make those decisions easier for himself.

Speaking about Giroud’s chances, Deschamps noted that he has never warned him like some said he has as he’s not there to advise him. He just gave out his opinion.

Deschamps stated that it’s Giroud’s decision. The striker knew his game time was limited at one point. He turned that around. Things changed.

The French manager insisted that these days he can’t give Giroud or any player a guarantee as he has the fortune of having quality and quantity at his disposal.

Not hiding under any shadow, Deschamps noted that Giroud will be around for a while longer, looking at his past performances.

“Less so than in the past because time passes, but for a while yet looking at his mental strength. It’s a merit to him for not letting go, but we know that: the harder it gets, the stronger he holds on,” he said.

Giroud has started four of Chelsea’s last five games scoring six goals in the process and has made an appearance in eleven straight in all competitions.
