Former Manchester United forward, Robin van Persie has jokingly asked Manchester United to announce the signing of free agent Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi has become a free agent since July 1 but he was set to sign a new deal with Barcelona before negotiation between both parties hit the rock.

The Argentine forward has decided to leave Barcelona this summer and top clubs across Europe are all willing to add him to their ranks.

Though Manchester City are regarded as the favourite to sign Messi on a free transfer this summer, Van Persie has told Manchester United to ramp up their interest in the Argentine forward.

After Manchester United wished their former striker Van Persie happy 38th birthday via Instagram, the Dutchman left a comment saying: “Announce Messi please.

Manchester United have already secure the signature of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid this summer.

Though they’ve not been linked to Messi but the club fans will be happy to see the Argentina forward in their squad next season.
