FA considering Guardiola as Southgate’s replacement
The English Football Association (FA) are considering having a new manager to replace Gareth Southgate as the national team’s head coach if the latter leaves the role after Euro 2024.
According to the reports, Man City manager Pep Guardiola is considered the favourite to take up the role after Southgate.
A report via the Daily Mail revealed Southgate is likely to step down after the Euro 24 tournament.
While his contract expires in 2024, the chances of the 53-year-old guiding the Three Lions to the 2026 World Cup have not been ruled out.
Guardiola, who has impressed in the EPL and Europe remains a serious option for the FA.
The only stumbling block would be Guardiola’s contract at Man City, which runs until 2025.
Aside from Guardiola, the likes of Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter had been considered options to take on the national team manager role, but the former two are currently in Premier League jobs.
