European football body UEFA are set to increase squad size for this summer’s European Champions to 26 players, according to the reports.

The latest decision was said to have been reached after a vote on Monday, which gave the go ahead for expanded squads.

This idea was first brought up in a meeting of all the nations’ coaches in Dusseldorf a fortnight ago.

However, during a meeting of the UEFA national competitions committee on Monday, delegates voted in agreement to increase the squads from a 23-player limit to 26.

Recall that enlarged squads were used at Euro 2021, to allow teams cope with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the delegate voting in favour of the new squad size, the decision is not yet a law as the UEFA executive committee (EXCO) still needs to sanction the rule change.

However, there are positive speculations that it will simply be a rubber-stamping exercise.
