EPL: Why Mason Mount didn’t start vs Man City
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in a post-match statement, has revealed why he didn’t start Mason Mount during their weekend game vs Man City in the Premier League.
While Tuchel dropped Mount, he went on to start Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, which left many surprised at his decision especially considering the kind of they were playing against.
The Blues went on to lose the match in a 1-0 scoreline and are now seated at the third spot on the Premier League table.
Explaining his decision, Tuchel stressed that the partnership of the American star and the Moroccan international had more running abilities than Mason.
Tuchel, in a post-match statement, said, “Everybody is an option, and it’s not easy to choose. We went with the characteristics of players, Kovacic and N’Golo, for example, rather than Jorginho. They’re more dribblers and drivers than passers, and I think it suits that a bit more in midfield. [We picked] Christian and Hakim for their fresh legs and because they’re a bit more runners than, for example, Mason.”
Mount would later come in in the second half, but it was not enough to save the Blues from losing three points.
