EPL: Aston Villa manager on why they defeated Chelsea

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery in a statement has given reason his side defeated Chelsea 1-0 in Sunday’s Premier League tie.

According to Emery, Aston Villa defeated the Blues because his players were very competitive and good defensively against the hosts.

The visiting side won all three points thanks to Ollie Watkins who scored the only goal of the encounter against Chelsea in the second half.

Chelsea’s Malo Gusto received a red card during the encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Emery said: “To win here is not easy and if the match was going differently, we could have lost as well but I am happy because we were very competitive and good defensively.”

He added: “He [Watkins] works hard every day, he practises with his teammates and his commitment is amazing. We will need his goals, like today. Emiliano Martinez played very well.”
