Chelsea goalkeeper and Senegal international Edouard has reacted to his country’s latest victory in the African Cup of Nation hosted in Cameroon.

Mendy, who was named the best goalkeeper in the tournament, has been receiving applause from teammates as well as from other football stars.

The Blues goalie has set a new record for himself as he becomes the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in the Cup of Nations final and the Champions League final.

Mendy was also at the centre of Senegal’s celebrations as team-mates mobbed him after the shoot-out and spoke of his pride at being part of the side that finally made Senegal African champions.

‘We are proud,’ said Mendy. ‘We never won it before. We worked really hard to win this trophy and today we won as a group and as a country and that is why I am super proud.

‘The penalties were tense for me, but also for the shooters. They did really well and I tried to give my best to save one shot and I did that, so I am super happy.’

Following his latest victory in the African Cup of Nations Tournament, Mendy will now meet up with his fellow Blues in Abu Dhabi as he would hope to add the FIFA Club World Cup to his collection.
