Chelsea set to seal deal for experience goalkeeper as backup to Mendy and Kepa

Premier League giant Chelsea are reportedly prepared to step up their interest in goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey who will serve as Eduardo Mendy and Kepa Arizzabalaga’s backup.

Chelsea are currently in need of a goalkeeper after Willy Caballero departed the West London club on a free transfer following the end of his contract.

Willy Caballero’s move means Chelsea are now stuck with two goalkeepers, Kepa and Mendy and need to add one.

The blues have now identified Hennessey as the goalkeeper that will replace Caballero at Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Sport.

Chelsea are ready to offer the veteran a chance to become their third-choice stopper after Crystal Palace released him.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s side are not the only team willing to sign the Wales international who is now 34 years old.

Premier League sides Aston Villa and Burnley are also said to be monitoring the situation, with a host of EFL clubs willing to offer Hennessey regular first-team football.
