Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has tipped Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez could leave the club soon due to the Blues’ poor form.

Merson opined that the Argentina star wants to win trophies after joining Chelsea for a huge fee and could be tempted to join a club that could help him achieve that.

Recall that the midfielder joined Chelsea in a £107 million move from Benfica during the winter transfer deadline day earlier this year.

Aside from Chelsea, Fernandez was also linked with moves to Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United over his impressing 2022 FIFA World Cup outing in Qatar.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special show, Merson said that Fernandez could leave if Chelsea continue to struggle under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Merson said: “My worry would be Enzo Fernandez. I don’t think he hangs around if it carries on like this… £100 million player and a World Cup-winner.

“These players don’t want to play middle-of-the-table football. They have got the money. They want to win trophies. That is what it is all about, winning trophies. They all get big money now.”
