Chelsea appear to have a distinct advantage in the race to sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, with the club prioritising the highly rated Borussia Dortmund winger as a key summer target.

The 20-year-old is one of two promising left wingers currently under serious consideration by Chelsea, both valued around £42 million—but only Gittens would be eligible to feature in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, giving Chelsea an additional incentive to move swiftly.

Gittens, a right-footed left winger, impressed last season with eight goals and three assists in all competitions. His counterpart, also 20 but slightly younger, delivered five goals and four league assists. While both are seen as exciting long-term prospects, Gittens’ impact at Dortmund—combined with his eligibility for Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign—has positioned him ahead in the club’s transfer shortlist.

At a reported £42 million, Chelsea would pay more for Gittens than they did for Noni Madueke in January 2023, despite Madueke being viewed at the time as a more developed talent. However, Gittens’ recent form and versatility make him a strong fit for Enzo Maresca’s system at Stamford Bridge.

With underlying performance metrics also closely matched between the two targets, Chelsea’s edge in being able to register Gittens for the Club World Cup could prove decisive. As the summer window intensifies, securing the Dortmund winger could be a key part of the club’s forward-planning strategy.
