Chelsea finally shares truth behind Maresca’s exit, link to Man City

Chelsea have cleared the air bothering on the exit of their former manager Enzo Maresca.
The Blues in a recent statement blamed the former manager for how the 2025/2026 campaign unravelled.
According to the West London club, Maresca made known his intention to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, leading to the Italian’s abrupt resignation in December 2025 despite being under a long-term contract.
Recall that Guardiola also left Manchester City at the end of the season, leaving the club on the look out for a replacement.
“Chelsea FC appreciates the 2025/26 season was a hugely disappointing one for the Club and its supporters. A major contributing factor was the disruption caused as a result of changes that the Club was forced to make to the Head Coach position over the Christmas period,” the Blues wrote in a statement.
The Blues revealed that a mutual agreement and confidential settlement has been reached with Manchester City, which includes the payment of compensation.
“A confidential settlement has also been reached with the former Head Coach under which he will pay compensation,” the Blues stated.
