Chelsea are reportedly preparing to challenge Newcastle United in the race to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion, as the club continues its search for attacking reinforcements under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

According to The Sun, while Newcastle have already entered talks with Brighton regarding a potential deal, Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation and are weighing up a £60 million bid for the 23-year-old forward. Although the Blues have yet to open formal negotiations, their interest signals a potential hijack of Newcastle’s move.

Pedro missed Brighton’s final two matches of the 2024/25 season, and the Seagulls are already preparing for his possible departure, with Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas reportedly identified as a replacement. The Brazilian forward impressed in his debut Premier League season and has attracted strong interest from top-flight clubs due to his versatility and technical ability.

Meanwhile, Chelsea remain focused on strengthening their attacking options and have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. However, with uncertainty surrounding that deal, Pedro is seen as a viable and high-quality alternative.

Manager Enzo Maresca is said to be an admirer of Pedro’s style of play and believes he would be a strong fit in Chelsea’s evolving system. As the summer transfer window progresses, Chelsea’s next move could define their attacking strategy for the season ahead.
