Arsenal Transfer News: Benjamin Sesko Makes Crucial Decision on RB Leipzig Future
Published
5 months agoon
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has reportedly decided on his immediate future amid speculation about a potential move to the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has drawn interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United following a strong finish to the 2023-24 Bundesliga season.
Stellar Performance
Sesko scored in each of Leipzig’s last seven Bundesliga matches and netted five goals for Slovenia in Euro 2024 qualifying. He is set to lead his national team in this summer’s championship. Despite his impressive form, the former Red Bull Salzburg starlet is under contract with Leipzig for another four seasons, with a reported release clause of around £55m.
Premier League Interest
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United were reportedly willing to trigger his release clause. Additionally, Saudi Pro League teams expressed interest, but Sesko preferred to stay in Europe. Arsenal was particularly keen, buoyed by their Champions League qualification.
Commitment to Leipzig
Despite speculation, Fabrizio Romano reports that Sesko has decided to remain at RB Leipzig, signing a new contract with improved terms. This decision forces the Premier League clubs to explore other options. Leipzig is expected to announce Sesko’s renewal shortly, although a gentleman’s agreement reportedly exists for a future transfer.
Euro 2024
Sesko’s contract decision precedes Slovenia’s Euro 2024 campaign, where they will face Denmark on June 16, Serbia on June 20, and England on June 25 in Group C. While many anticipated his performance against the Three Lions, his new contract reduces his transfer market visibility during the tournament.
Alternatives for Premier League Clubs
With Sesko staying at Leipzig, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United must look elsewhere for striker options. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is deemed too expensive at £110m, and targets like Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres are also financially out of reach.
Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly considering Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, potentially available for £34m, though AC Milan is also interested. Arsenal might shift focus from a new striker to bolstering their wide positions, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as current forward options.
Chelsea, meanwhile, had considered Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, but the Argentine has dismissed rumors of leaving the Etihad Stadium.
