Arsenal has begun negotiations with Everton for the transfer of Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana, marking their first move in the summer transfer market.

Onana, who joined Everton from French champions Lille two years ago, has been a pivotal figure in the Toffees’ Premier League campaigns, contributing four goals and three assists in 72 appearances.

Despite having three years left on his contract, the 22-year-old has expressed aspirations to play for a top European club, potentially easing Everton’s financial burdens if a suitable offer materializes.

According to reports from the Liverpool Echo, Arsenal has intensified their interest in Onana following setbacks in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.

Manager Mikel Arteta views Onana favorably, particularly impressed by his performance during Everton’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal in February 2023.

While Everton’s head coach Sean Dyche reportedly does not consider Onana indispensable, the club is said to be seeking at least £50m for his transfer.

This valuation has positioned Arsenal ahead of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Newcastle United in the race for his signature.

Securing Onana could also impact Manchester United’s pursuit of defender Jarrad Branthwaite, with Everton potentially lessening their financial need through Onana’s sale before June 30.

Arsenal’s search for midfield stability has seen them linked with various players, including Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Zubimendi, and Douglas Luiz.

However, Onana’s profile as a strong aerial presence and his robust midfield capabilities make him a prime target to bolster Arteta’s squad ahead of the new season.
