Another Chelsea defender confident of joining Barcelona

Chelsea defender and captain Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly getting confidence in his move to Spanish club Barcelona this summer.

It is no longer news that the 32-year-old defender has been linked with the Catalan giants over the last few months, with Xavi keen on signing him to his squad ahead of next season.

This is because of Azpilicueta’s ability to play as a full-back and central defender, which made him a worthy choice for Barca who would be able to sign him for an affordable fee.

According to The Times journalist Tom Roddy, Azpilicueta is becoming “more optimistic” that his move to Camp Nou is sure to happen before the end of the transfer window.

According to Roddy, the Blues deal for Jules Kounde and their determination to sign the Frenchman from Sevilla means they are ready to let Azpilicueta leave.

Azpilicueta, who joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2012 has made 474 appearances for the Blues, scoring 17 goals and creating 55 assists in the process.

He would be the second Chelsea player to join Barcelona this summer after Andreas Christensen, who moved to Camp Nou as a free agent.
